Final Poster

This poster is for a short film that is currently in the earlier stages, I used illustrator for the first draft and photoshop for the background and the text.

  1. The poster within a poster type of style seems a bit distracting to me. The white border around the red could pose another distraction. This is a really good design with the man and the tree on his back and then the “Gardenback” being carved into a tree.

  2. Your first draft is definitely the best, I love how simple it is. I'm not liking the text carved into the tree on the final design, its a cool idea but it's kind of hard to read. The gradient effect going on in the final poster is a bit bothersome too.

  3. Wow, both of them are really cool! I really want to see the film because this is really interesting. On the final poster, I would dim down the back or crop it in further because it seems a little distracting to me. Other than that, awesome job.

    1. In the final I would also like to see the text a little more highlighted, because the bark is really close to the wood color.

  4. Nice poster. I like the simplicity of it. The only thing is the text "Gardenback" is a little hard to read with the bark background. Keep up the good work.

  7. I love this poster. It's so vibrant and clear. My only complaint is the text. Very hard to read.

  8. Wow I sort of really love the idea of the poster in a poster, it gives it an almost video-game poster feeling (or at least that's how it feels to me). The way the words look carved into a tree looks great but a bit difficult to read. I'm not sure if it would be better with looking different or not. But yeah, this is a great composition and just overall interesting and fun.

  9. This is quite an interesting poster. I like how you made it look like paper is actually stabled to a tree. The only thing I have to complain is the text is really hard to read. I like how you were trying to make it look like it was carved into a tree, but maybe you could of made it bigger or bolder so its easier to read. Also maybe pick a different tree background to help the text out. The color of the picture you choose is good and image is interesting it makes me curious as to what this short film is about.

  10. Very excellent work. It is interesting seeing the Illustrator drawing on it’s own, then in the Photoshopped poster. The drawing itself has a great amount of subtle detail in the branches and ends of branches, which is contrasted nicely with the cleaner lines of the figure. The slant or slope of his leaning figure forms an “X”, or counter diagonal to the extension of the tree trunk. Overall, it’s a great, simple design in two colors, and a great example of a template that can be used in a myriad of ways, as we see in the finished poster. I love the fact that we are looking at a poster within a poster. The poster is folded, giving it dimension, there is a sheen to the paper, we see how the fold goes in and out. The shadows that are underneath it-there are so many descriptions of how this paper is positioned in space. Even details like the staples are lovely to look at- especially the peculiarity of them being at different angles. The subtle angle that the poster is positioned on is very poetic. The bark texture behind the poster provides a nice backdrop- are we looking at this poster as it is hanging on a tree? It could be, or it could be another kind of imaginary space. The typography and text is such an elegant addition- it has the shape and mark of what looks like it is actually carved into wood with angled lines, and it makes me really believe that it has been inscribed into the tree trunk. The whole thing feels casual, whimsical, and like something I would just walk up and find, but the design is obviously very well worked, and negotiated.

  11. Very striking design. I like the way you've divided up the poster within the poster by changing the shades of red and black. My only critique would be that I wish the carving into the tree either looked more realistic or just stood out more. Really like the design.

  12. I love the depth. The folds in the paper look really nice. The text carved into the bark background looks awesome. The color inside the text matches the tone of wood I'd expect to see when carving a tree, which adds to the realism of the poster. I also like that it's a poster within a poster, which is what gives it that depth. The bark texture could use some recoloring. It seems slightly bland.

  13. I am really happy about it. I like it a lot. I feel some estern or northen europe kind of feeling. I think the object size is really good match with back ground. Since there is no other object, so size matter can be big deal. I like the way you put the text, carved in the wooden-like back ground. That is very unique. It becken me to come out to real world, you know middle image so unreal, but still make me stay not so really world(my english is poor). There should be some more touch like balancing and text but it has great potencial effect.

  15. Wow, this poster looks very flawless. I'm not kidding, the way you did this in a 3-Dimentional way is fantastic. Even on the tree bark, it looks phenomenal. I honestly can't find anything to criticize.
